Music icon Elton John, will traverse Australia and New Zealand in 2019-2020, on his epic Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Between December 2019 and February 2020, the legendary performer will deliver his famed songbook to spellbound audiences, on his very last tour, playing across a mammoth run that includes Capital City concerts, along with stops at some of Australia’s finest outdoor venues.
Elton John’s three-year Farewell Yellow Brick Road global tour has already been hailed as one of his most “energetic, dazzlingly-original and joyful celebrations”. Elton’s legendary catalogue, including beloved songs ‘Bennie and the Jets’, ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Tiny Dancer’, ‘Crocodile Rock’, ‘Philadelphia Freedom’ and more, are showcased in a musical masterpiece that is a “reflective and stunning tribute to a great artist’s career”(NME), also celebrating his 50-plus year collaboration with lyricist Bernie Taupin – one of the great song-writing partnerships of all time.
“I’m ecstatic and humbled to continue to play for audiences across the globe. I plan to bring to my final tour the passion and creativity that has entertained my fans for decades…It’s the most produced and fantastic show I’ve ever done. I want to go out with a bang…”- Elton John
Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour
SUPERSTAR Elton John is set for an Australian summer as he spends three months Down Under as part of his final tour.
John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which started last September and is expected to run for three years, is predicted to gross more than $550 million dollars.
John will play Rod Laver Arena on December 10 and 11, then return to play Hanging Rock in Woodend on January 25 and two A Day on the Green winery shows – All States Estate in Rutherglen on January 29 and Rochford Wines in the Yarra Valley on January 31.
Rod Laver Arena tickets go on sale 9am February 14, the other shows go on sale 9am February 15. Hanging Rock Racing Club have moved their Australia Day race meeting to January 27 to accommodate the British superstar’s performance.
The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will be the rock icon’s most extensive since his first visit Down Under in 1971.
John announced 15 shows across Australia starting in Perth on November 30 and ending with the Rochford Wines show on January 31 with more expected to be added.
American tour bible Pollstar states John makes around $1.9 million per show, which means he stands to pocket just under $30 million from his Australian dates. “I always love coming back to Australia. Ever since my first visit in 1971 it has held a very special place in my heart,”John said.
He has played more than 196 concerts in Australia to more than 1.5 million people. Since his career began in 1969, he has played more than 4000 shows in more than 80 countries. “I’m ecstatic and humbled to continue to play for audiences across the globe,”John said. “I plan to bring to my final tour the passion and creativity that has entertained my fans for decades … It’s the most produced and fantastic show I’ve ever done. I want to go out with a bang.”
John, 71, plans to stop touring to dedicate “more time to raising my children”.
“Elton’s continuing love affair with Australia knows no bounds, proven by this farewell tour, and the breadth and depth of the itinerary, showing his commitment to his many Australian fans”, John’s longtime promoter Michael Chugg said. “On his very last tour, he wanted to return to some of his favourite cities, while also playing for fans in a couple of never before visited locations.”
The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour started in Pennsylvania in September with dates so far announced up to December 2020, although he plans to eventually play up to 300 shows around the world.
John will be the subject of a new film, Rocketman, due for release in May. With Taron Egerton playing the musician, it has been directed by Dexter Fletcher, who co-directed the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Insiders predict Rocketman could do for Elton’s back catalogue what Bohemian Rhapsody has done for Queen, who currently have 3 albums in the Australian Top 5. Their music has also been discovered by a new generation on streaming platforms.
John will be the seventh act to perform at Hanging Rock, following Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, the Eagles, Leonard Cohen, Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil.
“We’ve tried to keep Hanging Rock very special,” promoter Michael Gudinski said. “And having Sir Elton John play there on his farewell tour is certainly very special.”

Even Sir Elton has a Pink Limo
The Rolls Rolls Royce Phantom V is a car for the stars, and as with many of the cars he once owned, Sir Elton auctioned this car off too.
The car featured a 6,230 cc 90-degree V8 with twin SU carburettors, coupled to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The ultra-exclusive four-door limousine was produced by Rolls-Royce Limited from 1959 to 1968 with only a total of 516 Phantom Vs ever made.
Notable Phantom V owners included Queen Elizabeth II and her mother which is another reason why Sir Elton originally owned this type of car.
The car has a top speed of 155 mph, a 0-60 speed of 5 seconds and a price tag in the region today, of around $125,000 dollars.
